Frequently Asked Questions

Isn't the week of tryouts also Spring Break?

Sometimes the Spring Break/Easter Break schedules of the schools will conflict with the week of tryouts. We do the best we can to fit the tryouts in so that players only miss a portion of the tryouts and not the whole thing. In the past we have been able to accommodate players that have missed a portion of their tryout schedule and allowed them to makeup the session.

People often ask: "What do I do? We're out of town then." Don't worry, just come to a session you can come to and tell someone you had a conflict.

Are the tryouts every day?

The week of tryouts typically has some activity every day. However, not every player needs to be at the park every day. For instance, the schedule will be broken down into sessions for different groups based on tryout number. Your child might be assigned to a group that would follow a schedule like:

  • Saturday: 10-11:30
  • Sunday: 12-1;30
  • Tuesday: 5-6:30
  • Thursday: 5-6:30 (only if player is pitcher or catcher)

If there's a schedule conflict for one of the tryout times, don't worry, there will be the opportunity to attend a makeup session.

Are there any bat restrictions in your league?

There are no bat restrictions in our House League.

The Colt division plays high school rules so there is a "-3" weight-to-length restriction, e.g., 33" bat cannot be less than 30oz.

Tournaments provide individual restrictions based on the tournament host rules.

What if my son makes the high school team?

First, congratulations. Second, absolutely you can get a refund.

But hang on a second. Your son is still welcome to play in our league. IHSA rules prohibit players from playing with other teams until their season is complete. The Freshman season will end mid May and there is still plenty of baseball to be played in Oak Park at that time. There's also the opportunity for tournament play. If your son is age-eligible for the house league, get in touch with your Pony coach and discuss details so everyone is on the same page. If your son is age-eligible for Colt, have a conversation with one of the board members because the division doesn't start their season until June 1st.
